Programming Should Be Fun11 Oct 2017
Most good programmers do programming not because they expect to get paid or get adulation by the public, but because it is fun to program.
A lot of the Computer Science students I met while I was in college told me that they were majoring in CS because they expected to make 90K a year after graduation. Very rarely did I meet someone in college who said, “I love building xyz” or “Coding is the best puzzle.”
Now I see a lot of those developers making plenty of money (or switching careers), but they don’t seem to have passion.
The reason I write code is because every problem is a fun puzzle. That helps motivate me to write code everyday and keep learning. If you’re not having fun, you will stagnate because eventually it will become torturous to turn on your machine and write code.
